Regional IX Labs

Regional IX Labs

Ongoing

CIIIC is launching a nationwide network of five IX Labs: physical workspaces across the Netherlands where anyone interested in immersive technology can access facilities, knowledge and equipment. Together, they make it easier to move from experiment to real-world application — open, accessible and welcoming to all.

The five selected labs are now under way

The five funded labs are BRIX (Brabant, Noord-Holland), IX3 (Amsterdam), MIX (Hilversum), PRIME (Zeist) and SHINE (Rotterdam). Together, they form the national network IX Labs NL.

What the funding scheme does

The funding scheme supports five regional IX Labs: physical spaces where creators, businesses, knowledge institutions and government bodies can experiment with immersive technology, develop it and put it into practice. Together, they form the national network IX Labs NL.

This funding gives creative professionals, researchers and organisations access to facilities that would otherwise be too expensive, too specialised or too large-scale for most parties to afford on their own — from motion capture and virtual production to spatial audio, haptics and dome projection.

Thanks to these facilities, businesses, researchers, educators and public authorities don't need to invest in infrastructure that would otherwise be too expensive, specialised or large-scale for them. This means that a vocational training provider, a start-up and a multinational, for instance, all get access to the same high-quality facilities.

Can I still take part?

The five labs have been selected and are up and running. If you work with immersive technology, or you're simply interested in it, you can get started here with facilities, knowledge and tools. Whether you want to build a prototype using the latest hardware, run a workshop, or experiment together on new applications – you'll find the space, equipment and community to bring your ideas to life. You can view and book the labs via ixlabs.nl.

Delivery

The funding scheme is run by TNO, which supports the network of labs with knowledge and expertise.

Procedure

The call opened on 15 October 2025 in collaboration with TNO. Interested parties could register as an IX Lab and, once admitted, were invited into a dialogue phase. During this phase, they worked with TNO and the other participants to develop their proposal into a fully-fledged plan that functions within a national infrastructure. Based on the proposals submitted, TNO selected five IX Labs to form a consortium together.

Indicative grant per IX Lab: up to €2,880,000 for the full duration of the CIIIC programme through to 2029. Participants contribute to the costs themselves.

  • Phase 1 — maximum grant contribution €2,115,000
  • Phase 2 — maximum grant contribution €765,000
